I have taken the time to look at many SEO and internet marketing companies over the past few months. Some of them are quite experienced at their business but the mass majority of SEO companies do not know a whole lot about SEO etc, even though they are in the same field. Here are some interesting points about typical SEO companiess:
1. 85% do not understand SEO and internet marketing any better than you do: This is quite surprising but true. To prove this point, just ask them about some less known SEO techniques or explanations about their methods. They will most definitely give you a vague answer. Some SEO companies are so ignorant that they tell their clients that their services entail submissions to over thousands of search engines and directories for $29.99. If you have basic SEO knowledge, you would understand why that is a problem.
2. 80% will offer directory submissions: Most SEO companies will charge you a high price for submission to 200 or 300 directories. Firstly, directory submissions can be done for free if you invest $150 into a specialized directory software, so these SEO companies are ripping you off. Because most SEO services can only submit your website to directories, they have absolutely no idea how SEO really works. Most SEO practices centre around getting links from non-directory sources.
3. 30% will spam across the internet: This is not an exact number, it is more of an estimate. The fact remains that most of the new SEO companies start spamming because they look at the quantity and not the quality of the links. Some of them post your links on blog and link farms with as many as 1000 links on a single page! They might even go so far as to get the clients website penalized or even banned!
4. 80% of them provide standard services: Most SEO companies provide standard which take no account of your competition or personal requirements. Although that is not a problem in itself, it shows a huge lack of experience on their part. Because these SEO companies do the same stuff and compete on price, they create a market of lemons for SEO. Good results only come from techniques which only a few people have the knowledge and persistence to undertake. I always approach standardized SEO services with caution as I could save a lot of money by simply buying the software myself and using it.
5. 90% of them will fail to bring your website to the top: It is shocking but absolutely true. Some SEO companies focus on providing you thousands of links. Talk about using link farms! Other SEO companies will simply do massive amounts of directory submissions in the hopes of getting you to rank high. Needless to say, I know of atleast 3 clients who have been severely penalized because of such practices.
The moral of the story: Never select an SEO company blindly!
