There are many ways for someone to make money on the internet. One of them is called affiliate marketing and it is extremely effective if it is done properly. In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is you the marketer, promoting products or a service for someone else and in return you get a commission of the sales you drive your affiliate.
You can think of affiliate marketing as a concord between the developer of the product, known as the merchant affiliate, and the marketer. The marketers job is to get people to purchase the product by form of SEO or email lists, nothing illegal though.
Many affiliates are different and they all have their own guidelines. But in most cases they will only pay you for your advertising of their product if it results in a sale. So the more sales the marketer is able to get the more money the marketer will make.
Making the money and getting the money all depends upon how the affiliate program is set up. Some merchants will run their own affiliate program. They usually have certain types of software that assigns each affiliate marketer a special link that’s used in promoting the product. The software will track sales of every marketer and the merchant will pay the commission on a periodic basis using either PayPal or 2checkout.
Now the margin of money that you will be able to make with affiliate marketing will all depend on the individual. You will have to get a product to promote that people have a need for, once you find that product you will have to get a trusted developer for that product, and then of course you will have to drive traffic to your landing page.
With that being said it would be best to pick a product that you would be proud to promote and that would not be embarrassing. Think about if your parents asked you what you were promoting online to generate that extra income, would you be able to tell them the truth?
For the beginner it would be best to choose a niche or a product that you already have an understanding of. This will make it easier for you to write ads, write articles or post discussions in a niche related forum.
It would also be wise to only promote products and services for companies who have gone through the trouble to provide you with affiliate tools and sales aids such as banners and other marketing materials that you can use.
Be aware for the programs with commission rates no less than 50%. You should give preference to programs that pay commission on multiple levels, which means you’ll also have to earn commissions on sales made by people who buy the products through your link then go on and become affiliates themselves later on.
