My Blog Sucks? What?

I need some “constructive criticism” on my blog. Notice the quotes – if you want to say this blog looks like crap, or that I am an idiot, I don’t need that – it don’t help me…. (poor grammar on purpose – other poor grammar in posts – oh, well).

Please let me know what you think about my writing style, my content, widgets, my layout, etc… This is not a blatant attempt to get traffic…..I would really like to know how I can improve. Of course I may or may not make use of what you say – sometimes I am just stubborn.

I actually really like this layout. Everything fits perfect. Your sidebar is really well organized and not cluttered at all. Image in the posts make the homepage of the site look great. I honestly don’t know what to tell you to change

I have to agree with Scott. Nice clean layout. It’s almost as if my comment with dirty it somehow.

Not a bad layout-you need some color-be more diverse-and try to be different-not bad at all-

Dave, hi,

I agree with Doug above – I think it could use some more colour. Nothing too ferocious, but maybe just a background colour for your pages, or a background colour to your header.

Also – on my 14 inch laptop screen I need to scroll right, which is caused by your ‘feed me’ elephant cartoon character at the top right. Apart from that image all the other content is on the visible screen.

I just realised that elephant was an RSS feed icon! My further suggestion is that you make the RSS feed link more easily recognisable. I completely missed the point of the elephant!

Also – you may want to check out Feedburner.com and the feedburner feedsmith plugin. Both are good ways to make your feed as widely readable as possible, plus with feedburner you can allow people to get your RSS updates via email – good for people who are just starting out and not necessarily into RSS yet.

I like the look of your blog. It’s nice, clean and uncluttered. Even the ads are nonintrusive.

Love the tag cloud. I’d put one on my blog if I knew how. It looks much better than a category list.

As for the few comments suggesting you use more color. I don’t agree. Background colors, unless they are a very muted gray tone doesn’t cut it for me. I like white space. Using color just for the sake of prettying up a blog makes no sense. Every element on a site (to include color) should serve a purpose. In other words, form should always follow function. Anything extraneous only further detracts from the content.
